Biography
Composer · Conductor · Educator
Dr. Chaipruck Mekara is a Thai composer, conductor, clarinetist, and music educator. He received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Music Composition from Northwestern University (USA), where he studied with Stephen Syverud, William Karlins, and Jay Alan Yim. He also holds Master of Music degrees in Composition and Clarinet Performance from Roosevelt University in Chicago.
He currently serves as Music Director and Conductor of the Chiangmai Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chiangmai Philharmonic Band, leading a wide repertoire spanning orchestral, chamber, and contemporary music.
Throughout his academic career, Dr. Mekara has taught music theory, composition, orchestration, analysis, clarinet, and ensemble performance at the university level, mentoring generations of young musicians and composers.
His compositions have been performed internationally across Asia, Europe, and the United States by professional orchestras, chamber ensembles, soloists, and wind ensembles. His artistic work draws on contemporary musical language enriched by Thai culture and Northern Thai traditions.
