Dr. Chaipruck Mekara is a Thai composer, conductor, clarinetist, and music educator. He received the Doctor of Music degree in Music Composition from Northwestern University (USA), where he studied composition with Stephen Syverud, William Karlins, and Jay Alan Yim. He also earned a Master of Music in Composition and Clarinet Performance from Roosevelt University in Chicago.
He currently serves as Music Director and Conductor of the Chiangmai Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chiangmai Philharmonic Band. Throughout his university career, he has taught composition, orchestration, music theory, musical analysis, clarinet, saxophone, and ensemble performance, while mentoring young musicians and composers.
Dr. Mekara's compositions have received international performances and recognition through festivals, conferences, and concert presentations across Asia, Europe, and the United States. His artistic work reflects a sustained commitment to cultural dialogue, contemporary composition, and music education.

As Music Director of the Chiangmai Philharmonic Orchestra and Chiangmai Philharmonic Band, Dr. Mekara has led performances ranging from orchestral masterworks to premieres of contemporary compositions. His conducting emphasizes expressive communication, educational excellence, and the development of young musicians through rehearsal, performance, and international collaboration.
With more than two decades of university teaching, Chaipruck Mekara has developed a pedagogy grounded in rigour, curiosity, and deep respect for the individual artistic voice. His courses span composition, orchestration, music theory, analysis, conducting, and clarinet performance — disciplines he approaches not as separate technical domains but as interconnected dimensions of a complete musical education.
He has led masterclasses, workshops, clinics, and lectures across Thailand and internationally, engaging musicians at different stages of their artistic development. These sessions emphasise critical listening, structural thinking, musical craft, and the development of an individual artistic voice.
His mentoring extends beyond the classroom, supporting young musicians as they develop their artistic identities, prepare for performances and competitions, pursue further study, and move toward professional musical life. His approach emphasises not only technical and academic development, but the independence, curiosity, and resilience required for a sustained life in music.
