For more than two decades, Dr. Chaipruck Mekara has taught and mentored musicians through university teaching, conducting, composition, and international educational projects. His goal is not only to develop technical proficiency, but to help each student discover an authentic artistic voice.

Over more than twenty years in university teaching, Dr. Mekara has guided students across a broad and interconnected range of disciplines — from the rigours of compositional craft and the architecture of the orchestra, to the intimacy of the studio lesson and the collaborative demands of chamber music.

Teaching Philosophy

To teach music is to invite a student into a lifelong act of discovery. Dr. Mekara approaches every lesson and seminar not simply as a transfer of information, but as a shared exploration — one in which curiosity is cultivated, imagination is honoured, and the act of listening becomes as important as the act of playing. Music education, at its most meaningful, encourages students to understand both the art form and their own relationship to it.

Technical mastery and creative freedom are not opposites — they are partners. Dr. Mekara guides students to develop rigorous command of their craft: precision of technique, clarity of structure, and depth of musical understanding. Yet technique is always placed in the service of expression. Students are encouraged to ask why music works as it does, to question received interpretations, and to develop the intellectual and artistic independence that allows an individual voice to emerge.

Dr. Mekara's own artistic formation — rooted in Thai and Northern Thai cultural experience and developed through extensive study and professional engagement with the Western classical tradition — informs a teaching practice that is internationally aware and personally grounded. Students are encouraged to draw on their own cultural inheritance and individual experience as sources of creative strength, recognising that the international musical conversation is enriched by the distinctiveness of the voices that enter it.

Mentoring Young Musicians

Mentoring, for Dr. Mekara, is a relationship built on trust, patience, and respect for the individuality of each musician. Whether working with a young composer developing an individual musical language, a performer refining interpretation and technique, or musicians learning to communicate within an ensemble, his approach remains consistent: students should develop their own artistic identities rather than simply imitate their teachers.

Drawing on his experience as a composer, conductor, performer, and university educator, Dr. Mekara combines technical guidance with artistic openness. He encourages students to listen critically, question assumptions, take creative risks, and develop the independence and resilience necessary for continued artistic growth.

International Workshops & Masterclasses

Beyond the university classroom, Dr. Mekara has contributed to masterclasses, workshops, clinics, lectures, ensemble projects, and festival activities in Thailand and international settings. His work has brought him into contact with young musicians, university students, educators, performers, and participants in international music festivals and competitions.

Whether working with an ensemble, discussing composition and musical structure, coaching instrumental performance, or participating as a jury member and guest artist, he approaches education as an exchange of ideas and experience. These activities reflect his belief that musical learning extends beyond the classroom into rehearsals, performances, festivals, and encounters between musicians from different cultural backgrounds.

Educational Projects

Alongside his university teaching, Dr. Mekara has developed and contributed to educational, festival, ensemble, and community music projects involving young musicians and musicians from different backgrounds. His work has included workshops and masterclasses, school and university collaborations, ensemble rehearsals and performances, festival activities, and community-oriented musical events.

Through these projects, he seeks to create opportunities for musicians to learn through participation: listening to one another, rehearsing together, encountering unfamiliar repertoire and perspectives, and experiencing music as a shared activity. This approach connects his work as an educator with his broader commitment to artistic collaboration, cultural exchange, and community engagement.
