Mozart's Serenade no. 10 for Winds arrangement for Clarinet Choir
The Serenade No. 10 in B-flat major, K. 361/370a, commonly known as the Gran Partita, is one of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's most celebrated works for winds, scored for twelve wind instruments and string bass. Composed circa 1781–1782, the work is widely regarded as a landmark in the chamber music repertoire for its orchestral richness, harmonic sophistication, and the extraordinary demands it places on its performers.
Chaipruck Mekara transcribed the third movement of this work for Clarinet Choir, scored for Eb Clarinet, seven Bb Clarinets, and two Bass Clarinets. The arrangement was dedicated to the Clarinet Camerata of Mexico. In adapting the original wind scoring for a homogeneous clarinet ensemble, Mekara preserves the intricate voice-leading and textural balance of Mozart's writing while exploiting the wide dynamic and timbral range of the clarinet family.
